End of Season YSL Update from Director Erich Pessl
Wed Mar 10, 01:53 PM
by Kristen Westesen
The Youth Ski League XC program (for 5-13 year old kids) has evolved along with the increased popularity of Nordic skiing in the Gallatin Valley over the past few years. This year we have over 100 kids in the program again, and we added a new session at Bridger Creek on Saturday mornings (along with usual sessions at Bridger Creek/Lindley Park on Wednesdays and Bohart Ranch on Saturdays). For the past two years, we have been offering our older kids skate skiing instruction, as well as classic technique lessons. And this year, we hired a great group of enthusiastic young instructors (and a few slightly older ones too) who have been in the sport for years since they were youth Nordic skiers themselves.
The program has developed in such a way that accommodates many older children, and serves as a smooth transition program for those interested in moving on to the J4 and J5 BSF program. But we also have a strong group of very young children in the program, with nearly 40 five and six year olds kids this year! It has been sweetly symbolic to see a small throng of little YSL skiers lead the way down the race course at Lindley World Cup races this year—many of these kids will be the ones wearing BSF race uniforms (some with crazy wigs and wild skirts added on) in future years! Lastly, this year we ended the year with a fantastic carnival celebration at Bohart Ranch, joining forces with the Gallatin Valley Land Trust Kid Fest. It was a fun YSL ski season—many of us are already looking forward to next year!

YSL Carnival Saturday Feb 27th!
Thu Feb 18, 11:45 PM
by Erich Pessl
It was so great to see the flowing stream of the little YSL kids leading the way off the starting line of the Lindley World Cup yesterday. The YSL presence at the event was palpable. Together with the older BSF kids and parents, the YSL kids help make Bozeman a great Nordic ski community!
On Saturday, February 27th, 1-2:30pm, BSF and the Youth Ski League will have an end-of-season ski carnival/Kid Fest at Bohart Ranch. All Wednesday and Saturday YSL children are encouraged to come, as well as any friends and neighbors, children and adults!

I hope everyone had a great summer and you are starting to get excited about the upcoming ski season!
The BSF Nordic Junior Program just started the new season last month (Sept. 1), so I wanted to let you know about program options for your children who were in the YSL program last year.
If your child is interested in more ski time this year and further improving his/her ski abilities, he or she will love the J5 or J4 BSF programs. At this time, the BSF kids are doing fun hike activities… (click “read more” for more info)

Thank you YSL parents, for giving us the opportunity to ski with your children this year—
Thu Mar 5, 08:39 PM
by Erich Pessl

Our last session at Lindley on Wednesday was memorable for the mud, puddles, and ice! Hopefully, though, we all will have more lasting memories of being outdoors in the soft, deep snow from the surge of more wintry weather this past weekend.
We hope your children enjoyed Nordic skiing in the YSL program this winter. For the kids in the Wednesday sessions, the trips to the Bridger Creek Golf Course trails were a big hit and we will plan to do more of those next year. The Saturday kids, once again, enjoyed the gorgeous trails of Bohart Ranch.

YSL visits Bridger Creek!
Thu Feb 5, 10:55 AM
by Erich Pessl
Welcomed by soft evening sunshine and the beautiful scenery, the YSL crew had a great time exploring the Bridger Creek trails yesterday. We will return there next Wednesday, then the following sessions will be at Lindley (including another World Cup race event on February 18). We are hoping to coordinate an effort with the older BSF Junior team members and coaches to ski with the kids for our last session at Lindley, on February 25th. Have a great weekend everyone. YSL skiers at Lindley World Cup!
Mon Jan 19, 02:42 PM
by Erich Pessl
Hello YSL Nordic Parents—
I hope everyone had a great weekend with their kids out in the snow and sunshine.
This Wednesday at 4:30pm at the Lindley Center stadium area, there will be a Lindley World Cup Race! This sounds very impressive, but it is NOT a ferociously competitive event that is nationally televised! Instead, it is a once a month event in which all BSF skiers from 4 years old to 80 years old come out to start a race together, ski as fast as they want, and enjoy eachothers’ company. There’s even a potluck after the race in the Lindley Center.
Our YSL skiers will be there too. We will start any of our young skiers who would like to give it a try (age 7 and older)—click “read more”
