BSF J5 News and Information:

February Newsletter

Wed Jan 27, 03:18 PM
by Heidi Makoutz

I missed the deadline for the BSF newsletter so I wanted to post this here for J5 parents.

February J5 Update
The J5 squad continues to dazzle me with their excitement for skiing. Athletes have been getting stronger at the various classic techniques – varying from double poling, to double pole kicking equally on both sides, to striding based on the terrain. In February we will be focusing on progressing with the skate techniques. Everyone has different strengths so we are learning from each other every day. The recent snow should last us for a while and we will be trying some new games and relays to work on the difference between V1 and V2 skate techniques. Those that raced here in Bozeman on the JNQ weekend had a blast and we were all proud of their accomplishments. I look forward to the next month as a time for us to continue thriving on the positive energy we have established, and becoming even more excited for the success of our fellow team members! Rock on J5!

J5 notes on communication

Mon Nov 2, 11:54 AM
by Heidi Makoutz

A couple of important notes about communication with me :)
1. I work full time for Thrive as a Parent Liaison, and fenagle my schedule to get out early to come to BSF on Tuesday and Thursday. If I am not there right at 4pm your children should go with Kristen Westesen until I get there.
2. Once we are meeting at Lindley I will always be there before 4.
3. If you have questions before practice you can call me on my cell phone 518-320-5467.
4. If you would like to receive a text message update in addition to emails or checking the BSF website (for example, if we change locations or technique on the day of practice I can text you to remind), then just email me back and let me know.

J5 2009 - Here we go!

Mon Nov 2, 10:54 AM
by Heidi Makoutz

Just a note to welcome everyone to the season! I am so excited to get together and get going with our J5 crew! Now that we are splitting off I will be sending the emails to our group. Right now we have 8 kiddos and I am hopeful to have one or two more to match our numbers from last year. So if you know of anyone that is about your kids age that loves to be outside and play, and wants to learn how to ski, and ski better, then send them my way! WE HAVE A TON OF FUN!! Our age group becomes a special J5 club! We have a lot of 1st years so don’t feel bad if your child is still a “beginner”!

I will be emailing soon!
Heidi

Welcome to fall training 2009!

Fri Sep 25, 12:59 PM
by Heidi Makoutz

Hello and welcome J5 and potential J5 families! I am so excited to be back for another season with BSF! Last year was a great year for us and I know this one will be FANTASTIC as well! We “graduated” 8 of our J5 9 athletes to J4 and I am enthusiastic to work with a new group of kiddos this year! So far we have 5 training in the fall, and I look forward to adding on as fall sports taper off and we look ahead to skiing! It has been so much fun getting to know new kids, and taking advantage of this great fall weather! The October sign-up night is the 6th. Check for more info on the upcoming events schedule. If you have any questions feel free to contact me via email! I look forward to meeting you and skiing with you!

J5 Updates

Fri Mar 6, 11:01 AM
by Kristen Westesen

February J5 Update from Heidi Makoutz
Despite our deteriorating snow conditions in town the J5 crew has continued to make leaps and bounds of progress with their technique. Each athlete is feeling accomplished about the progress made toward the goals we made for skiing in the new year. It is inspiring to older athletes and the other coaches to see our youngest group displaying such impressive technique development. They have really taken on learning the different skate techniques and enjoy showing them off to Dragan!

We are looking forward to finishing off the season with a bang in Sun Valley, West Yellowstone and also closer to home. We are also wishing for a late blast of snow so that we can continue to practice at Lindley!

January J5 update from Heidi Makoutz
The J5 squad continues to dazzle me with their excitement and intensity for skiing. Athletes have been working on their Skiing New Year Resolutions – varying from double pole kicking equally on both sides, to having great sportsmanship, to using V2 in a race, to bringing water to practice each time, to learning V2 alternate, to keeping up with a partner… everyone is working on something! Lately the snow has been good and we have had less frigid days so everyone is all smiles! These kids just want to go go go! When given the option to do something 3 or 4 times they will most often pick 4! I have been impressed with their willingness to try new games and new skills to help them with balance, glide, and strategy for down hill terrain. I look forward to the next month as a time for us to continue thriving on the positive energy and success we have already had so far this year as a close knit J5 group. Bring on the snow!
