Bozeman Creek - Friday, 4/11/08

Fri Apr 11, 02:37 PM
by Bob Seibert

Today marks the end of snowmobile grooming in the Bozeman Creek Drainage. I groomed to the bridge this morning. Skating is great but classic rails are pretty marginal and in some cases nonexistant in the first couple miles. All snowmobiles and grooming drags have been removed to summer storage. It was a great winter!

by Bob Seibert

It was a productive morning at Bozeman Creek and the entire system was snowmobile/Ginzu groomed. I turned around at Moser Divide and Wild Horse Junction. Classic tracks are marginal and intermitent in the first two miles. Skating above the bridge will be a bit soft because of the large volume of new snow from the last storm.

I’ll be working up Bozeman Creek this morning. There is LOTS of new snow, so I might only groom to the bridge. Is there interest in continuing to ski there and for BSF to continue to invest the effort?

Bozeman Creek - Wednesday, 4/2/08

Wed Apr 2, 01:29 PM
by Bob Seibert

Snowmobile groomed the entire Bozeman Creek system this morning. Lots of ungroomed snow up the Mystic Lake branch so it will be soft for skating. Moser Divide went in well and will be your best bet for skating. Both should ski well for classic. The classic tracks in the first mile or so beyond the trailhead are a little rough and are showing the impact of the mild afternoon temperatures and sunshine.

George had planned to use the Bombardier up Bozeman Creek tonight but had to pospone till tomorrow night for personal reasons. I might try to groom early tomorow (Wednesday) and push the route above the bridge which is where I stopped this morning. If not, skiing should still be pretty good up to the bridge.

Bozeman Creek - Saturday, 3/29/08

Sat Mar 29, 08:13 AM
by Bob Seibert

George did not groom last night because of the ongoing snow storm, and the Bombardier can NOT be used during the day with all the use that the trail gets. I’m committed to other activities today, so it looks like a touring day for Bozeman Creek. We’ll try to have something done for tororrow (Sunday) if weather cooperates.

Bozeman Creek - Wednesday, 3/19/06

Wed Mar 19, 10:49 AM

Bozeman Creek is back! Jerry and I groomed from the trailhead to the bridge. Both classic and skate lanes are in. Very skiable for the first 3/4 mile, then very good skiing to the bridge. Will work above the bridge as time allows.

Bozeman Creek, Tues 3/11

Tue Mar 11, 12:04 PM
by George Rice

Waiting for colder temps or lower elevation snow to move the Snow Cat from the water plant to the trail head. If the cleats on the big machine are run through the mud on the road they will pick it up and leave dirt smudges the whole way up the trail while grooming. Sorry for the poor conditions folks, but we are stuck between a rock and a sloppy spot here. Will groom to the lake and Moser gate when and if conditions improve.

Area Grooming Update - Thursday, 3/6/08

Thu Mar 6, 09:04 AM
by Bob Seibert

FROM BRIAN McNEIL, USFS: Since the last plow on Monday (3-4-08) through today, there is about 2 to 5
inches of new snow from the lower fishing access to Langohr campground. Above the campground to the Main Hyalite TH (Grotto) there is anywhere between 8 to 10 inches of new snow. Driving conditions are still good and
people are behaving as well.

I skied and finished marking the cross-country ski trail from History Rock to Blackmore. Last Friday, BSF and I groomed the Lick/Wildhorse/History Rock loop with a roller and track setter. We also snowmobile packed the Wildhorse/Maxi/Palisade stretch. With the new snow, these routes have a good base and are skiing great.

Would recommend that anyone driving Hyalite these next couple of weeks would be driving a vehicle with 4 wheel drive and good snow tires. The road is compacted snow with an ice layer at the bottom from last weeks warm weather. Low clearance, front wheel/all wheel drive vehicles should be okay, just remember that it is defiantly still winter driving conditions up Hyalite — wouldn’t hurt to have a set of chains and a shovel handy. From
the Lower Fishing access to Blackmore it is still two lanes, so no worries on two way traffic. Above the res. the road narrows to about a lane and a half with two or three pull outs all the way to the Main Hyalite TH.

BOZEMAN CREEK – by Bob Seibert: The big cat will be moved from Lindley to Bozeman Creek later today. In the next few days George will make a much needed pass up Bozeman Creek. There will be no snowmobile based grooming for the next week while some of us migrate to warmer climates for Spring Break.
