J5 Updates

· Fri Mar 6, 11:01 AM by Kristen Westesen

February J5 Update from Heidi Makoutz
Despite our deteriorating snow conditions in town the J5 crew has continued to make leaps and bounds of progress with their technique. Each athlete is feeling accomplished about the progress made toward the goals we made for skiing in the new year. It is inspiring to older athletes and the other coaches to see our youngest group displaying such impressive technique development. They have really taken on learning the different skate techniques and enjoy showing them off to Dragan!

We are looking forward to finishing off the season with a bang in Sun Valley, West Yellowstone and also closer to home. We are also wishing for a late blast of snow so that we can continue to practice at Lindley!

January J5 update from Heidi Makoutz
The J5 squad continues to dazzle me with their excitement and intensity for skiing. Athletes have been working on their Skiing New Year Resolutions – varying from double pole kicking equally on both sides, to having great sportsmanship, to using V2 in a race, to bringing water to practice each time, to learning V2 alternate, to keeping up with a partner… everyone is working on something! Lately the snow has been good and we have had less frigid days so everyone is all smiles! These kids just want to go go go! When given the option to do something 3 or 4 times they will most often pick 4! I have been impressed with their willingness to try new games and new skills to help them with balance, glide, and strategy for down hill terrain. I look forward to the next month as a time for us to continue thriving on the positive energy and success we have already had so far this year as a close knit J5 group. Bring on the snow!
