BSF Nordic Volunteering

BSF Nordic Fundraising supplements its program expenses to keep fees as low as possible—an additional $300 per athlete must be raised just to cover program costs. Fundraising events which bring necessary revenue to the club require the assistance of many, much-appreciated volunteers. A Volunteer Questionnaire (found under the “Forms/Publications” link at left) must be completed and submitted with your athlete’s registration. Families should consider making a tax-deductible if they will not be able to volunteer. See individual registration forms for additional information. Volunteer hours must be completed within the ski-year (June 1, 2009 to June 1, 20010).
Below is a list of volunteer opportunities throughout the season and the contact person for each:

Snowmaking at Lindley Park
Contact – John Villar (jpvillar@gmail.com)
Job Description: We hope to install some snow fencing and we also intend to start making snow in the very near future with our Kid Wizard snow making machine and need several volunteers to help with this assignment. There is no prior experience required as it is all quite easy to do once you get the hang of it. It is hoped that with enough people we can each take a series of days on call “duty” as well as occasionally getting together to assist in moving the machine when necessary. A typical snow-making shift would entail the following (note: this is very temperature dependent, i.e., if the temps are above 30 F we will likely not make snow, but if they are below 25 the machine will be on most of the time):
- Turn the machine on in the evening when the temps drop to below 25 F. (30 minutes) – Check on the machine in the morning and chip off what ice may have accumulated overnight (15 – 45 minutes) – Turn the machine off as the temps start to rise. (15 – 45 minutes). – Change out froze valves and clean filters as deemed necessary.
