Canmore Update

So we’re 3.5 days along now. Monday was a classic ski in the AM followed by easy jogging around town in the PM. Yesterday, we began our workout in Banff and ran an out-and-back trail towards Canmore. The J1/OJ athletes were out a little longer than anticipated, but they managed to run all the way to the Canmore Nordic Centre and back. That works out to about 28+km of running. A good solid 3.5 hour run! I heard some of the athletes say they burned 3000+ calories during that workout, as estimated by the heart-rate-monitors. J2’s and J3’s ran on the same trail, but we cut the workout “short” — at the 2.5 – 2.75 hour mark.
Yesterday PM we played some games in town, alternating between soccer, basketball and volleyball. I don’t think we have any future W/NBA stars in our midst. Sorry parents.
Today was Maggie Goertzen’s birthday. Happy BDay! The older athletes completed a long classic rollerski at the Nordic Centre again. J2 and J3’s worked with Kristen and me for about 2 hours, focusing on technique. Just about everybody is improving already. Today was a great day with a nice blue sky and temps a bit warmer than the past few days. We got a bunch of photos of the J2/3 groups upon completion of the workout.
This PM we went to our favorite local watering hole (not that kind, parents), Minnewanka Lake for some swimming and rope-swinging. Again, lots more photos. A team-meeting and video session followed by birthday cake rounded out the evening. I’m bushed and headed for bed.
Regarding photos, my wireless signal is very weak, and I’m having problems uploading them. But don’t worry, we are getting plenty of em.
Other than putting up with the musical preferences of a few athletes, I’d say camp is off to a good start.
