Ase Carlson Senior Nationals update - day 1, travel

· Sun Dec 30, 09:10 PM by Timothy M. Weston

Day One of Our Expedition to Historical Houghton

The epic confessions of a diva with the assistance of a celebrity guest.

December 29 marked the first day of BSF’s pilgrimage to Houghton, Michigan, the location of Senior Nationals 2008.

The day started out with an up meet at the bustling airport. Everyone arrived promptly at 7 with theexception of the celebrity duo, sisters Erikza and Natalia Flor, who entered followed by an entourage of paparazzi. The mellow scene at the airport was inevitably transformed into the typical Hollywood red carpet event. But what can one expect?

The only mishap of the morning occurred as Miss Heagney was inquired of an ID, which she was lacking. One frantic phone call later and her driver emerged just as the plane was departing. Thankfully Miss Heagney and Lander Karath, who misunderstanding the liquids policy had arrived toting four bottles of water and a full hygiene set, were escorted onto the
flying vehicle by a S.W.A.T team.

The plane ride was uneventful (Tanner was missing). Gretchen met a young friend whom she is in correspondence with.

A few hours later the BSF’ers were on the road in two beautiful vans adorned with fan mail and flowers. The drive was exciting as the scenery was breathtaking and the gas stations were to-die-for. A wonderful dinner of gourmet fast food at a series of hip locals, including Arby’s and Shapiro’s, in a wonderful Midwest
town, were a highlight. After this rejuvenating hiatus we were off again hitting the road, burning rubber and eaten’ dust. The atmosphere in the vans was bursting at the seam with a euphoric zeal. Some of the world-class athletes were reading, others knitting and yet more crying for their mothers. Dragan was at the
wheel.

In the mini van with the skis and baggage, Tim Weston and pregnant fiancé Kristina Trygstad-Saari, were discussing the upcoming wedding accommodations. Coincidentally the wedding will be held at the famous Bohemia Ski Resort in Houghton. As is customary, all of BSF is invited to the ceremony on April 7th.*

Entertainment in Dragan’s van was supplied, to the dismay of the “middle” girls, by talented divas and singer extraordinaires (names ommited for the sake of privacy).

Houghton greeted us after a long drive at 10 p.m. Everyone was tired and ready to hit the sacks, which we did.

Houghton is a beautiful place and we are fortunate to be able to grace it with our presence. There is a lot of snow too.

  2. Ase—Send Tim and Kristina my regrets-I’m busy on April 7 or would certainly fly to MI for the ceremony!
